— Ostensibly Speaking

ARTIST STATMENT

I build miniature worlds through abstract paintings that examine reality through a philosophical lens. Grounded in my lived experience, I alchemize emotions into colorful paintings and intricate linework to challenge our human understanding of reality. Eyeball motifs are often present among the organic forms not as an embellishment, but as presence. Eyes animate the canvas itself, allowing it to look back at the viewer in an exchange of awareness: you perceive the painting, and the painting perceives you. This reciprocity transforms a still illustration into an alive entity. I also often work with audio artists to visualize sounds from concerts, albums, or studio sessions into a tangible form. I encourage viewers to self reflect on what it means to be alive by emphasizing the importance of deliberately noticing details in these illustrations and, more importantly, in everyday life.

ABOUT

Ostensibly Speaking is a Brooklyn-based Black Filipina American Fine Artist from Virginia. Working primarily in Acrylic medium and expanded through ink drawings and watercolor, her work depicts emotion and lived experience into layered miniature worlds.

Raised by parents immersed in construction and design, Osten learned early to see making as both utility and expression. This foundation evolved through years of crafting functional objects, fashion, and sculptural forms, before sharpening into fine art. In 2022, she earned a BBA in Marketing from the Raymond A. Mason School of Business and entered corporate retail, an experience that led her to NYC and furthered her engagement with fashion.

She continued to take on roles with underground rapper Insãne Shinobi such as Costume Design, Talent Agent, Director, and Actress. The Duo have co-starred in several Music Videos including Okay and Infinite Tsukuyomi. It is no surprise that music is the muse to many of her paintings as she often found herself inspired by studio sessions and performances around Brooklyn.

She formally entered the underground art scene as an emerging fine artist in 2025 exhibiting 'The Hill'  in a group show at The Buren, a local cafe. She also joined UpMagazine and RabbleWine at the Brooklyn Art Cave exhibiting 'Tardigrade' in the collaborative event. Her most recent live-painting performance alongside Shinobi marked a shift toward immersive, audio-visual collaborations. She plans to continue to use art as her main form of identity and expression demonstrated with her most recent collection: Emergencean archival debut.
